What kind of a name is this for a theatre?

If I recall correctly, "Man O'War" was the name of a famous winning race horse in Kentucky, and if so it would bring up positive connotations to the locals, as well as being aggressivge and sassy to those with a taste for such as in today's youth culture. I'm a Yankee, so I cannot comment on this in point of fact; we'll have to wait for a local to come forward. Their web site provides no clue, the lazy oafs. Normally I don't like someone adding my name to the response lists for minor theatres such as this, but this one was fun.

Good point Jim. I didn't think of the famous race horse called Man O' War. At first I thought this theater might be named after a jellyfish like the Portuguese Man-of-War. But then, that idea sounded "fishy" to me. :)

This theatre has been purchased by Starplex Cinemas and, as of 5/26/06, is operated as a discount house.

Man O'War is a major road in Lexington. A lot of commercial development occurred along it in the 80s and 90s. Cinemark opened this theater and another 8-screen one in a shopping center called Lexington Green at the same time.

I grew up in Lexington, KY, "The Horse Capital of the World," and my family has worked on and managed racehorse farms since the 1930s. Indeed, the Cinemark theatre was named after the famous racehorse, Man O' War (1917-1947, Google him for more info), as was Man O' War Boulevard, which makes a circle halfway to three-quarters of the way around Lexington. The theatre now offers dinner/drinks while you're watching the movie and is a new theatre/dining experience. The whole area (miles and miles) near where the Lexington Movie Tavern sits was farmland when I was a child.
