The Community Theatre first opened in 1937, and was in the Colonial American style pioneered by the Walter Reade Circuit, which built it. The building currently functions as a warehouse. Once a major port town, Hudson is best known today for its many antique shops.

Thats a good find. The related article claims that the building was built in 1933. "The future center, built in 1933 as a community theater, is a classical-style structure that in more recent times was used for indoor tennis. It has to be gutted and renovated. Ceiling, plumbing, heating, electricity — everything needs to be repaired or replaced. But none of this deters the artist".

Actually, it opened in December, 1937 and the first film shown there was SUBMARINE D-1 with Pat O'Brien and Wayne Morris.

Saw this theatre on my bike trip 2 weeks ago. The rear of the auditorium is actually on the right of the street, which means you have to walk in and down to the left and then in the auditorium. The rear looks like a hulking warehouse.

This Library of Congress photo of the Community Theatre in Hudson attributed the design of the house to architect William I. Hohauser.
