Originally known as the Hippodrome Theatre, it was operating prior to 1914. This neighborhood theater was known for its shiny blue exterior covered with movie posters.

It closed in the early 1960's and was used as a church.

It reopened in the early 1970's as the Niagara Falls Cinema. It was to be a family theater with low prices. Unfortunately this didn't work out and the theater turned to pornography.

It closed in 2002 and in 2008 was converted into retail use.

As I drove down Pine Ave.,I noticed the doors to this theater opened. I pulled over and parked and found the lights on and workers hard at work "gutting" the theater. The ticket booth and refreshment stand were gone. The wall seperating the lobby and auditorium was demolished. Paneling on the auditorium walls had been removed and the seats were being taken out. One thing that remained was the big screen and it reminded me of all the movies I had seen there.

Theatre is being renovated for use as a Big Lots store.

Actually, the theatre is being renovated as a general merchandise store, and not a Big Lots. At this time, the general merchandise store is still under construction.

It seems now that they may be working on the facade because it shrouded in a blue tarp. Unfortunate that this city has last all of its beautiful theatres.
