Goldie's Best Little Opryhouse in Kentucky is located in downtown Owensboro, the barbecue capital of the world, the home of bluegrass music and Kentucky's third largest city. Our shows are on Friday and Saturday nights year round and offer a blend of old and new country, comedy, bluegrass, gospel, and old time rock and roll music. Goldie's is a very affordable show to which you can bring the entire family from the youngest to the oldest.

We often have people tell us that our show is better than anything that they have seen in Branson or Nashville, and we agree! We have some of the most talented musicians, singers and comedians that you will find assembled anywhere in the country. We are a regular destination on many tour operators' schedules, and our shows have such variety that many of our customers buy season tickets and come every weekend. One thing that makes our show so popular with our repeat customers is that no two shows are alike, because they are not "canned" performances like you may find in some other shows.

The stage at Goldie's has been the launching platform for the careers of several aspiring professional and semi-professional entertainers. Country singer Billy Dean and MTV's Real World star Jon Brennan got their start and experience performing at Goldie's. We frequently have a Friday open mic night at Goldie's where anyone can sing with our band. Many of our regular cast members got their jobs at Goldie's by being "discovered" on an open mic night or in one of our talent shows. If you would like to sing at Goldie's, check our schedule for open mic or talent contest nights and come on down!

September 3, 2005 marked the twenty-third anniversary of Goldie's Best Little Opryhouse in Kentucky so we must be doing something right. If you have never experienced the fun and entertainment of a Goldie's Show, you owe it to yourself to come and see for yourself, but be forewarned: see one show, and you will be hooked on Goldie's!

Do you show films? Has this venue ever been a movie theater?

According to this site ,"this 1906 theater, which showcased vaudeville in the days before films, has become Goldie's Best Little Opryhouse in Kentucky". I guess it was a movie theater at one time.

Fair enough. Hopefully we can keep to a minimum the number of new additions that are blatant advertisements.

The Malco Theatre is listed in the 1941 edition of Film Daily Yearbook with a seating capacity of 500. In the 1943 edition of F.D.Y. is has a seating capacity given as 756 and is operated by Paramount Pictures Inc through their subsidiary M.A. Lightman.

The 1950 edition of Film Daily Yearbook has the Malco Theatre, 418 Frederica Street with a seating capacity of 720. Also listed in this edition of F.D.Y. is a New Malco Theatre, 118 W. 3rd Street that has a seating capacity of 552.

This is the Frederica Street Malco. The first one, on W. 3rd Street, was razed many years ago. This Malco was one of four movie theatres (others included the Strand and Bleich) in downtown Owensboro during the 40s, 50s & 60s. It retained its name on top of the marquee for many years after closing as a movie theatre, but now is known as "Goldie's." To add to the confusion, the towns last remaining operating movie theatre is called...the Malco. It's a fairly new megaplex. If I can figure out how it's done, I'll post a photo at photobucket.

According to Bowers' "Encyclopedia" page 551, there was a "Bleach" [sic] theatre in Owensboro equipped with a Reproduco organ made by the Operators Piano Co. I could not find a page for the Bleach, so I am putting this here for the time being.

The "Encyclopedia" probably spelled the name wrong. There was a Bleich Theater located on Frederica Street in Owensboro, KY.
