In August 2008 a dinner theatre/night club/independent movie theatre was being built on the site of this former theatre. Part of the building remains.

This theater has reopened now as a cinema drafthouse. As such, its status should be changed to open.

JodarMovieFan, was the multiplex totally demolished? including its exterior walls?

If the drafthouse is new construction, it should be added separately with its own page. (Cinema Treasures can add it) If the multiplex's exterior walls stayed and the existing building was rebuilt, then this page can merely be updated.

And, if you've seen any news articles, please link them here.

I'll stop by on my way back from the gym. I just remember seeing ads in the mall about the cinema drafthouse. I'll update ASAP.

The theater is not demolished. The Cinema & Drafhouse operation lasted only two months, from October - December 2008. The Cinema & Drafhouse operation used the original 7 screens--the four screen addition that was added later is there intact, just behind the wall on the right side of the Cinema & Drafthouse lobby.

Sorry for the long delay in posting. I actually found this news bit in the Washington Business Journal. It states that the closure was due to a failed $5M expansion (!) of this venue to become, as Joe states above, a cinema and drafthouse. The owners of the Arlington Cinema N Drafthouse, who were behind the project cited the county's long delayed permit process and excessive costs. The original news article can be found at http://washington.bizjournals.com/washington/stories/2009/07/13/daily96.html

Upon further digging. I found an article that talks specifically about the theater here:

Aha. An opening announcement is found here:

I am surprised I never heard anything about this place even though I frequent this area almost weekly. Its too bad it didn't have a chance. All that money invested and contruction done..a waste.
