Opened in 1948, just as movie attendances were beginning to decline. Gooding, a town of only a few thousand people, already had the old Schubert Theatre only a few blocks away.

The Gooding Theatre has now been closed for many years, used in the meantime for a variety of other businesses, with a boarded-over marquee the only evidence that it ever was a theater. The Schubert Theatre is still open and called the Gooding Cinema.

I visited Gooding three years ago and stood on the corner of 6th Ave East and Main St. and took photos of the Gooding theatre. The above post, which places the theatre at 841 Main St. is two blocks farther away. The other theatre in town, the former Schubert, later renamed the Gooding Cinema, is at 402 Main and had seating listed of 650.

In 1955 the number of seats given for the Gooding Theater is 850. The Schubert Theater is also listed that year with 650 seats.

I remember this brick building as being very modern so I was quite surprised to find out that it opened in 1948 and had 767 seats. The owner was H.N. Beamer. (Boxoffice magazine, July 24, 1948). 592 Main Street might be a more specific address since it is on the same side of the street as the Gooding Cinema (Schubert) but two blocks away.

This is a photo of a Schubert Theater in Gooding. The building looks the same as the Gooding Cinema building. Shubert was probably a previous name.
