The old South Shore mall theater in Bayshore shut its doors in the mid-90's. Once a single screener, a wall was installed down the middle to convert this to a twin.

The lobby has since been converted into a leather store, while the theater itself remains completely intact behind a gated area.

This was a great single house in the seventies. Huge screen, they played Paramount and Columbia. Saw "Bugsy Malone", "The Big Bus", "Close Encounters", "Tommy" and "The Godfather" there. I wasn't old enough to get see The Godfather but my mother who had seen it earlier talked to the manager and he let me see it with my brother by ourselves one quiet Saturday matinee. When they twinned it, they screwed it up. They built a wall right down the middle but the seats on the sides were on an angle to face the big single screen. They never reconfigured the seats and you had to sit at an angle to see the new screen.

The 1966 annual report of Loew's Theatres has an artist's rendering of this theatre, which it expected to open the following year.

The caption reads: "Rendering of Loew's new 1,200 seat theatre in the South Shore Mall of Bayshore, L. I., where Macy's and J. C. Penney are major neighbors." It looks like the original name was to be "Loew's Bayshore".

I loved this theater when it was a one-screen, but after it was chopped up, it completly lost its attraction. Originally, It wasn't a very old type of theater, it seemed modern and a fair screen size, and nice seats. It also had a good, deep, multi-channel sound system, which was highlighted when 2001: A Space Odyssey ran there, which I saw a few times at the theater. It was chopped into halves, and we were left with the choice of two shoeboxes. It closed and the lobby turned into a budget clothing shop, I don't know what it's function is presently.

Bay Shore should be two words. That's why Google won't map the current address.
