The city of Duluth purchased the Art Deco style Nor Shor Theater in 2001 and has begun restoring it. Renovations will most likely cost more than $6 million and no private business was able to handle the expense. The Nor Shor Theater is being purchased from its current owner and the purchase of the Bridgeman building will also enable the city to restore the nearby, 1,200-seat, Orpheum Theater, which was built in 1910.

The Nor Shor Theater, which was erected in 1941, is still in operation as a local venue for films, concerts and stage shows.

I am trying to gain a list of movies that were played at both the Norshor, and the Granada theaters in the sixties. Any help out there?

Thanks!

The city of Duluth deal fell through and the Norshor Theatre remains in private hands. A series of lessees in the past few years have come and gone. Theatre continues to operate in fits and starts. The old Orpheum and the Norshor are the same building. The Orpheum was retrofitted so to speak, with the entrance moved, and the auditorium was flipped around in the opposition direction (stage to back of theatre). The new Norshor opened inside the shell of the old Orpheum in October 1941. As for the 1960s playdates of the Granada and Norshor, I have a lot of that information but not in a user friendly format that just focuses on those two theatres. Your best bet is to simply go through microfilms of the newspapers at the library.

The correct address is 211, not 1211. The norshor.com site is the PREVIOUS management and no longer updated. The current operators' web site is norshor.biz

The Film Daily Yearbook, 1950 gives a seating capacity for the Norshor Theater as 1,202.

The city attorney of Duluth and many local business owners are quite unhappy with the plans the NorShor's new owner has for the old theater:

Too bad Duluth was too shortsighted to help out the previous owner. Looks like he got you good; now you're stuck with the trashiest strip club this side of the Mississippi and some a-hole who owns all of the theaters and only plays Hollywood blockbusters. The city owes itself a pat on the back!!

What's happening to this theatre? Has it been turned into a strip club or what?

Shouldn't the name in the header be two words, Nor Shor? It is seperated in the photos.
