The Ben Ali opened in 1913, and was built by (and named for)a prominent area businessman, James Ben Ali Haggin. The Ben Ali was originally designed for legitimate theatre, but within two years of its opening, had become primarily a movie house. The theater was closed and torn down in 1965, replaced by a parking lot.
