The Lyric Theater was located in the Welch Building on East Main Street.

No specific opening date is given, but it is listed in the Film Daily Yearbook, 1941 and possibly opened just prior to that in the late 1930's. The original seating capcity is listed as 600, but this had been reduced to 505 as noted in the FDY, 1950.

On November 19th 1957 the Lyric burned down after a furnace exploded.

It was the only movie theater in Scottsville and operated a policy of three different movies a week, plus cartoons.

This theater actually had two fires. The first was around 1943. It was remodeled after that fire. The exterior was of black and ivory glass tiles with chrome trim. It was the first, and for many years, the only air conditioned building in town.
After the 1957 fire, the building was rebuilt, another theater was not considered a profitable venture so Scottsville was without one for several years.
I haven't been able to find a photo of this theater but I have found a drawing of it. That drawing is here:

This drawing looks very much like that of the Capitol Theatre in Bowling Green. I wonder if they had the same architect? The black glass and trim,and event the feel of the marquee.
