The Ritz Lounge & Theatre as it is called today has a bar in what was the balcony. The lower floor is tiered with tables and chairs facing a stage area where the screen used to be and live bands perform now. Musch of the original decor of the theatre has been retained and somewhat restored.

According to this article, it's soon to be changed to the newest downtown location of the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema. So, movies will once again play and be appreciated at the Ritz/Alamo Drafthouse Downtown.

Good luck to the Alamo. The best theater in the country combined with the resurrection of an old movie palace? Perfect.

DID ANYONE SEE THE SIZE OF THAT SCREEN................That is a home theater size!
posted by longislandmovies on Nov 7, 2007 at 9:42pm
It's not the screen size that's important, it's the experience. And without people talking around me during the films, with special events and corresponding menu items, alcohol, food brought right to you, and truly unique programming, I'd gladly go to this theater than an IMAX size one any day. And though they may be strapped for size (since it is a historic building with 2 screens squeezed into one small building), they don't skimp on the audio setup in the least. I love you, Drafthouse

its nice to see that draft house people are posting on this site as wednesday..but.....never went to a theater that screen size was not one of the most important feature!!!!!!!!!!!!

To even insult IMAX by compareing it to this ......lol

The Ritz Theater first opened in 1929. This is a vintage interior view. Caption reads: Crowd waits for showtime, circa 1932 (pre-expansion).

On March 30th and 31st, the Ritz theater will present An Audience of One, a hilarious, yet chilling documentary from Mike Jacobs. It looks into the life of a pentacostal minister and his dreams of making a big budget multi-million dollar film. It's an amazing look into faith and how far it can drive people, and is worth watching.
