The Irving Theater was built in 1912, in an existing early 1880s commercial structure on Halsted Street in the historic Maxwell Street area. It was designed by architect Alexander Levy and sat just under 300. The theater lasted until 1935, when the building underwent another conversion, back to retail (a couple of small stores), though it was partially vacant in later years. By 2007 it was noted as having been demolished.

It is not to be confused with the much larger Irving Theater (originally the Irving Park Theater) in the Irving Park neighborhood.

The Irving is now demolished, a casualty of University Village.
