The Canaan Baptist Church is now at this address--not sure if it's housed in the former theatre or not. Can anyone verify?

What avenues was theatre situated between? I saw a theatre building about four years ago from 116th Street but the 116th entrance wasn't evident. A possible entrance on the uptown side exterior of the large building could have been in use as the new entrance.

It's located between Lenox and 7th Avenues, closer to Lenox...I found this website that answers my own question. It IS the former 116th Street Theatre.

There used to be a movie theatre at 3rd and 116th - the one film I recall, per a studio-placed ad which ran in the Times, was 1988's 'Salsa'; does anyone remember its name or know of its history?

There was a Theatre on the south side of 116th st.
called the COSMO around 3rd Ave. This is a busy retail store
area and the theatre is probably still there.

Storefronts are now to be found on the site of the old COSMO.

This theatre was open from 1933 to 1968. A previous theatre at this location dates back to 1919 with the same name.

Warren,

there is a theatre on 5th Avenue and 116th street. Is this the theatre you are refering to?

The 116th Street's interior has been extensively renovated and divided up for a church, but some of the original design is still visible.

The exterior (rebuilt facade and entrance) photographed in July 2003. The brick mass of the auditorium block can be seen at the rear:

Does anyone know any thing about Harry Hart who ran a small string of vaudeville theaters on the east coat and in the midwest with his office located in NYC during the 1909 to 1934 era? Where might I look to find his obit, as Variety and Billboard were not of any help in this search? Mr. Hart was aligned with the Gus Sun Curcuit and used that organization to book his theatrical acts.

This theater was operated by Loew's from at least 1919 to 1932. In 1922 it is listed as seating 1890 people

There are two theatres with the same name at the same location. One operated from 1919 to 1932. The other from 1933 to 1963.
