The Martin Theater, located on Main Street at Foster Street, opened around 1941. It is shown in the 1943 Film Daily Yearbook as open, seating 950 and operated by the Martin Theaters chain.

It was demolished in September 2008.

Why didn't they build a protective shell OVER the theater to construct layered parking.

Now that makes good, common sense and would have saved another historic theater... just what they did for the old and huge Fox (now Copely Hall) in San Diego, CA.

It is a common misconception that the theater was torn down in 2008. That was actually the old BC Moore's Department Store which had been used by the Souteast Alabama Community Theater for the last 25 years. Because they built a Marquis to announce upcoming plays many began to believe this was the old Martin Theater. The theater was actually next to the Houston County Court House and was torn down to provide added parking in the early 1970's.
