The Dryden Theatre was instituted by George Eastman in 1951. Eastman was the founder of Kodak and the inventor of motion picture film.

The theatre is located on his estate in Rochester NY, within The George Eastman House, his famed art museum. It is considered an integral part of the museum, which harbors 25,000 movies, over five million film stills, and 12,000 celebrity portraits. Today the theatre specializes in exhibiting classic films from the well-preserved collection as well as contemporary films of all kinds.
