The Ying King Theatre was situated in the Tai Kok Tsui district on the Kowloon side of Hong Kong.

Ying King, meaning "capital of the United Kingdom", was the Cantonese pronunciation of its Chinese name.

The theatre opened to business on 23rd October 1960 with a Cantonese language film. In the early and mid 1960s, first run Cantonese language films were shown,and from the late 1960s until its closure on 1st September, 1977, it showed first run Mandarin language films except 1974 and 1975, when first run English language films were shown.

It closed temporarily on 16th June, 1970 for extensive renovation and re-opened on 6th August, 1970. After the renovation, the theatre had an enlarged main entrance, new seats and a foyer on the first floor.

A residential building was built on the site of the theatre.

Raymond, this photo is supposed to be from 1956. The film "Wichita" was released in the US in 1955. The marquee says "King's Theatre", so I'm wondering if this is the same as the Ying King. There would be a discrepancy in the dates:

ken mc,this is the photo of the King's Theatre in the Central district on the Hong Kong Island,a famous theatre in Hong Kong.

Its Chinese name is 英京戲院。
