The Cube Cinema originally opened in 1964 in a building that had been the Arts Centre Cinema, 7 Kings Square, Bristol. Seating in that building was for 150. It was founded by William and Jean Poeton and they encouraged the staging of new plays and rare revivals. Films were also screened from 1966 and by the 1990's it was the city's second run art house cinema. It closed suddenly in January 1998, when allegedly, the owner ran off with the money! It re-opened as the Cube Cinema on 2nd October 1998 and was taken over by a collective of independent filmakers who screened 'the wierd, stange, cult and experimental stuff you cannot see anywhere in Bristol'

The auditorium was entered through a Georgean terrace house, which also contained a Chinese restaurant, which it shared toilet facilities with!

The Cube had to move address when a fire destroyed their original home.

Now relocated, the Cube is a microplex cinema and venue in central Bristol. As well as live performances, it screeens avant garde films, amateur films and independent films, usually with a left-wing view.
