The Paris Theatre was situated in the Sam Po Kong district on the Kowloon side of Hong Kong.

With three thousand seats in one auditorium, the Paris Theatre was the largest ever built in Hong Kong. It opened to business on 25th August, 1966 with a colour Cantonese film.

The auditorium with a 70 foot wide screen was on the first floor of the theatre building with the lobby on the ground floor. There were two lifts serving the patrons of the dress circle.

A disturbance broke out at the theatre on 26th May, 1978 after the late night show was disrupted by short circuit. Policemen had to be called to the theatre to restore order.

On the night of 8th February, 1980, a home-made bomb exploded in the stalls, two patrons were injured. A small fire broke out in a room near the front
stalls on the night of 14th December, 1983, but no patron was hurt in the incident.

During the 1960s and 1970s, it showed first-run Chinese dialect, English and Japanese films, and in the 1980s until its closure on 28th February, 1992, it was the only second-run theatre showing English films in Hong Kong.

A residential building was built on the site of the theatre.

I really enjoyed the Paris as it had a massive screen. I thought it had 3 levels but I could be wrong. Because it used to show second-run movies at a cut price, it was perfect for students. The last movie I saw at the Paris was "Dead Poet Society", after my first viewing at Lee Theatre (can you do an article for this lovely theatre Raymond??). Still one of my favourite movie ever.
