Alkazar Sinemasi was built in the 1910's. In the 1970's-1980's it became an adult theater. The 1st Istanbul Gay & Lesbian Film Festival was held at the Alkazar in October 2004. In March/April 2008, the International Women's Film Festival was held here.

Today, the Alkazar Sinemasi shows mostly art films from Europe along with an occasional Hollywood movie.
