A small 788-seat cinema about half a mile from the city center in a district called Sheepscar. It opened January 11, 1913 with "A Cruel Fate" accompanied by the Newtown Orchestra under the direction of Mr Francis Walker.

The original proprietor was Mr W. Hainsworth, who engaged the architect W. Peel Schofield of Leeds to design the pretty new cinema.

The balcony front was richly decorated in Edwardian style garlands and medalions.

However, it was a very early closure as the last film "Captain Blood, Fugitive" was screened on the 2nd September 1953.

There is now a false ceiling at balcony level - it is not known if any of the plasterwork survives nearly fifty after closure.
