When it opened on August 30, 1926 it was the eastern most theatre on the South Shore of Long Island, and fairly large for its time particularly since the Southampton Theatre was also large and not that far away. Interestingly enough, in the good old days it was probably a lot quicker to travel from Southampton to East Hampton than now with the current glut of traffic on a single lane road.

For most of its life it was part of the Prudential Circuit, which dominated Suffolk County. After it burnt down in 1964 a new theatre was built on the site under the UA and now Regal banners. The number of auditoriums has increased several times. But the current theatre is another posting since it is a whole new theatre with a new name.
