Located at the Carolina East Mall, the cinema opened in the early to mid-1970's as a twin theatre under the owned and operated ABC Southeastern Theatres, and later acquired in the late-1970's by Plitt Southern Theatres.

By the 1980's, the largest auditorium was split down the middle to add a third auditorium. In the early-1990's, the cinema was acquired by Cineplex Odeon corporation until 1995 when another auditorium was laid out by taking the second auditorium and splitting it down the middle to add a fourth auditorium, making it a multiplex.

Carmike Cinemas took over the operations(and the last theatre chain to run this cinema) of the Carolina East Mall Cinemas until its closing in 2005.

Carmnike closed this theatre shortly after they opened the Carmike 12 on E. Fire Tower.
