The Pavilion Cinema was originally on the tram route in the Leeds suburb of Stanningley about a mile from the Savoy Cinema (qv). It had 644 seats on one level and opened 28 February 1920 with Mary Pickford in "Daddy Long Legs". It was designed by J.P. Crawford of Leeds for William & John Hobson. It appeared that the cinema was not complete by the time it opened as a press advert stated that 'As the hall is occupied by workmen during the day, we cannot yet hold matinees!'

After just over a half century of operation the Pavilion Cinema closed on 5 April 1970 with "Invitation to a Gunfighter", and was turned over to the inevitable bingo. It has now been gutted and transformed into office space.
