I don't know about Staten Island location but the three on Long Island in East Meadow (later the East Meadow Fliks) is now retail,
the Massapequa Park is now a Harrow's (on Sunrise Highway) and the Lake Ronkonkoma was just recently gutted (in later years a X rated film house) but the turnstyle and lobby hadn't been demolished yet. All 3 were part of shopping centers and exterior walls show where the exits were for all three locations.

I think there was also one in Rockaway Park, NY that later became a XXX before becoming the Surfside Twins. Now it's closed.

This theatre was in Mariner's Harbor.

Jerry's policy of showing only PG/PG-13 films was doomed from the start. By the mid 70s most if not all the theatres were either closed or sold.

This one closed over 15 years ago. It's now an Entemann's outlet bakery. It has a small parking lot, maybe 30 cars. In 1987 the United Artists Multiplex (near the garbage dump), opening, killing t and many other area smaller theatres. In 1983 I saw an Eddie Murphy double feature of 48HRS and Trading Places. I was always a single screen venue but had first run movies.

There are two former Jerry Lewis Theatres still open in North Jersey--the Valleyview Twin in Wayne, and the Kinnelon 1-2-3 in Kinnelon (a.k.a. Meadtown Cinema).

Mr. Kone, are you suggesting that we use the $6.5 million to build a Jerry Lewis Cinema? I doubt that it would be a good investment at this time.

i recall it being a sub-par theatre,constructed cheaply.even the popcorn was lousy.

i caught a brief glimpse passing by the other day, the former theatre appeared to be some kind of discount food outlet, i didnt catch a name so cannot verify that it is still an entenmann's bakery outlet.

That theater was a bandbox. I would have made one of the smallest theaters in a cineplex. Could it have had more than 100 seats in there? It is now where the current Entemanns bakery outlet. Last movie that I saw there was "Zombie". I think it was a George Romero flix.

i recall the popcorn tasting like cardboard.

If I remember correctly, they made this theater a twin after a while before it eventually closed.

This is what I found on a Jerry Lewis theater in Staten Island, I hope that its this one. Opened around 1974 with 356 seats. The address was:

2176 Forest Ave
Staten Island, NY 10303

Anthony , i don't recall the theatre ever being twinned. it was too small and no additions were ever added , the building looks the same today as when it was built.

most if not all j.l.c.'s were twins...also very small

ua/jerry lewis partnered on the invention of minitec...

most set up the person who sells the ticket...sells the candy..

starts the show...it was also the start of the platter system..

Actually Wally, the JL twin I worked in Hawaii, which opened in 1972, had what was called a film transport system that utilized huge 15k reels, (roughly two hours and twenty minutes of film) that were mounted on the rear of the projector. Platters came along a year or two later I believe. Yikes, those reels were heavy, but you could rewind right on the projector. It was the second complex in Hawaii to use Xenon lamps, the first being the now closed Waikiki twins.

Here's a clipping from the Daily News in December 1980:

Movie Guide 12/9/80

The Jerry Lewis is listed way at the bottom as the sole entry for Staten Island. The address shown is 2166 Forest Ave, though I'm sure these guides were prone to typo's. Lost... where'd you get the 2176 address?

Anyway... check out the programming. "Best of 60's Rock". I guess they ran some of those video-to-film transfers of shows like Shindig and other music programs that were fairly popular in the mid to late '60's? Sounds like this may have been a midnight show. I remember some theaters on Long Island used to show "Bloopers" at midnight. "Star Trek" (the TV series) bloopers in particular were a popular part of those programs. Anyone remember those?

posted by Ed Solero on Jul 11, 2006 at 6:55am
I remember the bloopers being shown at the Island.
The only movie I saw at the Jerry Lewis was Stripes. It was a single at the time. What also sucked about it was that there was nothing to do in the immediate vicinity after the movie, especially at night.

There was a Jerry Lewis Twin in Niagara Falls,NY. It closed and the auditoriums are used for off-track betting. The lobby was used by an optician but is now vacant.

In the address above, "Staten Islan" needs to be changed to Staten Island.

The book Going To The Movies On Staten Island wrongly states both this and the Richmond theatre were demolished after closing. I went on Google maps street view and the building is still there. Evidently the Entenmann's Bakery went out of business and there is a "For Lease" sign on the fence in front.
