The old Dodge Theatre is an architecturally ornate movie house, complete with a balcony. It opened in 1929 and was once known as the Fox Dodge Theater. Although I didn't visit it until the early 1980's when I was 5, I remember thinking that all movie theaters were supposed to have curtains and balconies and chandeliers like the Dodge Theatre.

It closed in the late 90s after it had been renovated and reopened a few years prior.

The correct address for the Dodge Theatre should be 1401 Central Ave., Dodge City, Ks. When you map it, it shows it as Central Ave.

A Technicolor trailer showing the 1939 world premiere festivities here for WB's "Dodge City" can be seen at the Turner Classic Movies website. Just enter the movie's title in the search engine at the right of the screen: www.tcm.com/mediaroom/index/#player_area

This is a recent photo that shows the Dodge Theater. Text with photo claims that this theater is closed. And the address should be 108 Gunsmoke Street.

A 1987 view of the Dodge Theater here and here. And a 1999 view here.

Here is an October 2008 photo. It still looks closed.

The entrance must have been considerably changed and narrowed in later years. It doesn't match the view shown in the 1939 trailer for "Dodge City," which can still be seen in the Turner Classic Movies link that I posted above on 9/15/07.

Warren not many theatres had the same marquee in the 60's and beyond that they had in the 20's and 30's.

The photos that LM linked to are the Dodge Theatre whether they look the same as the 1939 photo or not.
