A classic example of late 20's early 30's super cinema, built as a cine-variety theatre called the Empire. It had a horseshoe balcony, huge stage and once had a Compton organ which was removed in the early 60s.

It was built by County Cinemas then sold to J. Arthur Rank and renamed the Odeon. Closed in the early 80s, it is currently used as a church and is in danger of demolition.

The Empire was opened on 1st August 1930. It was taken over by County Cinemas in about 1931. It was re-named Odeon from 18th January 1964 and closed on 17th October 1971.

Now called The Kings Centre, which is a Christian centre.
