Fondly remembered by those growing up as kids in the 1930's and 1940's, influenced by Tom Mix and Westerns, the Rex Theater and its brightly lit facade was part of the ornate theaters erected in the early 1900's to 1920's. Vaudeville shows were performed here as well.

The area declined when the main business and retail ventured westward. The popularity of television also led to the Rex's demise. Although the theater is no longer standing, upon it's demise, the structure was gutted and retrofitted into the existing Army & Navy Department Store. Only parts of the original interior plaster work still exist though not visible due to modernization.
