Park Heights Avenue had several old movie theatres, including the Avalon, the Uptown and the Plimlico. The Avalon was located in the 4300 block of Park Heights Aveune, just south of West Cold Spring Lane.

The theatre was noted for it's outstanding facade. The front of the theatre was lined with windows and adorned with sunburst faces above each window. Large columns seperated each window.

The Avalon was used as radio studios and later as a chruch, before it was finally abandoned in 1987. The entire block of Park Heights was torn down in 1997.

The Avalon was for some years the "studio" of Baltimore's original UHF Channel 24, which went off the air circa 1970. The building remained vacant until its demise.
