The Hippodrome was opened in 1912, and built on the site of a mid-19th century legitimate house, the Lyric. The Hippodrome was closed in 1931, and two years later was demolished.

A Gratian theater organ size 2/28 was installed in the Hippodrome Theater in 1916. Note: Spencer Blower.

In 1930 the Hippodrome Theater had 700 seats.

Many news items about the Hippodrome and its predecessor, the Lyric, can be read on the Madison County Theater History web page. In addition, the page features a photo of the Lyric under construction in the 1850s.
