Built on the site of the Roosevelt Raceway where trotters ran for decades. Loews spared no expense on this cinema, built shortly before their financial woes. All ten auditoriums have stadium seating, huge screens with drapes (unused because of video programs that play between features) top notch sound and first rate concession stands and kiosks. The Raceway shares releases with AMC Loews Roosevelt Field 8 down the road, but is the preferred house.

I've heard that none of the theaters in the area of Westbury, Long Island are currently doing well, in spite of their size.

I go to this theatre alot, and have never seen it empty. The weekends it sells out and even weeknights they get a good crowd. It's nice to be able to park right outside, even when it's crowded.

I went to visit this theatre with an aunt who lives on the island, a few years ago and there was a group of unruly teenagers throwing candy at the screen and talking very loudly. The theatre is a large and not of architectural significance, but then neither is my aunts 1950's, split level, imitation tudor, suburban tract home.

The Loews Roosevelt Raceway Theatre has 4 screens with 277 seats each, and 1 each with 166, 155, 169, 378, 508, 376 seats - for a total of 10 screens and 2,860 seats.

PeterC, this Loews theater is in Garden City. I have worked relief here as a projectionist. It is indeed a busy place and has top-notch equipment, although we (projectionists) have limited time in the booth. What does that mean? A year ago, we were booted out of full-time and reduced to part-time presence in this booth and the Roosevelt Field theater, nearby. The greatest equipment in the world is no good if it is operated by a novice.

As far as Westbury goes, the UA Westbury is one of the top grossers for Regal cinemas, and it employs full-time projectionists.

I always thought this was Garden City also but am told it's Westbury. The Garden City location would sound much more prestigious if it were.

Worst part about the Raceway is transportation, but if it had a big bus hub like the field it would get the same trouble making crowd. So it is nicer for elderly and couples and family's.

I love this theater. It plays a lot of art house fair along with Hollywood blockbuster. The theater is well kept with plenty of parking. It is also equipped with digital projection.
