The mattituck theater has been an indi theater most of its life other than the few years cineplexodeon ran it . The shopping center owners now run this theater .

This theater has gone under a complete renovation in the last 2 years

This theater does very well. No more breakdown like when Cineplex owned it. This place will be here a for a long time.

This theater does ok if it is around for a long time it will be for one of 2 reasons 1. The landlords family runs the theater as they do many of the stores in the center, 2. Riverhead does not open a theater.

PS. this theater never had many breakdowns.....

When cineplex ran the theater, there were many breakdowns. I have the service reports to show it. Cineplex never put any money into the place. The landlords do run the theater now and have put lots of money into renovations. They get first run movies and do well. I'm there enough to see it. They have been trying to put a theater in Riverhead for a while now and it fell through.

I was dm for this theater for CIneplex and can tell you for sure the grosses have always just been fair . Fair for a theater that has no competion for MILES is not good . Someday a theater will go in RIVERHEAD and when it does this is done!

I agree with that but there is a huge difference between the quality of the presentation then and the presentation now.

If memory serves me right ... Mattituck had a theater long before the Mattituck Twin [now 8] opened. It was just a block or so east up Rte 25. I think it was a single screen. When I was growing up in the area it was home to Mattituck Auto Parts. Anyone have more info?

Look at the entries for the Greenport theater. It talks about exactly that.

The 1957 Film Daily Year Book lists a 420-seat Mattituck Theatre on Pike Street, but with no specific building number. In the early days of movies, I believe that the auditorium of the Mattituck public libary was used part-time as a cinema.

Before the current Mattituck theatre there was one on the opposite side of the road a short distance away. What they did was construct a small, metal Quonset hut and put on a "fancy" facade with a "pointed" marquee. At the point was a large "M". The building, with observable marquee is still in tact. The next time I'm in the area I'll make notes of the address current occupant, and post it. I'd do it now but once something is up I don't believe we have the facility to make updates, only comments. Is this correct?

I haven't been back to Mattituck in a number of years, but would like to know if the old theatre building is still standing, and if the current tenants have kept the old marquee

Per my comments above the theatre is still standing. Although the marquee is still in place the theatre name has been removed. As I said, it's very obvious what it was. As my computer skills improve, and I establish the old theatre on this site I may even take a picture.

The old theater is now a sporting goods store called East End Sporting Goods. The "M" is still on the marquee.

And if you'll notice, I added the old theatre to the site a couple of weeks ago. I was inside and way pointed out some of the remnants of the old theatre hidden in a storage area.
