The Wellwood Theater was located in Lindenhurst. It opened in 1913 and closed in 1947.

This theater was another casualty of road construction on Long Island. It was located on Wellwood avenue right next to the Southern State Pkwy. It was lost when new exit and entrance ramps were added.

I had a cousin John, now deceased, who was able to pull a reel of film from the rubble. I believe it was from "Tarzan's New York Adventure". After my cousin's passing that reel no longer exists.

The 2004 posting is all wrong. The theatre was in the heart of town just south of the railroad tracks on the west side of the street. You'll notice the address is south wellwood av.. The demise of the theatre was due to a fire. My uncle, who was an avid photographer and a volunteer firefighter had some dramatic pictures of the fire.

Checked with my cousin re the Wellwood theatre fire pictures. They didn't make the cut when she moved to California. Maybe I'll try the Library or the Museum.
