The theater closed the end of August 2015. the last movies playing there were Fantastic Four, Inside Out, Mission: Impossible Rogue Nation, Minions, and Hitman Agent 47. The theater just got Hitman 47 movie that weekend to make room for it they got rid of Pixels movie.

The status of Lincoln Theater needs to be changed to closed. The theater closed sometime in 2014.

We were calling it the “stinkin' Lincoln” in the 80s, too. I saw E.T., The Return of the Jedi (and Spaceballs), Police Academy 6, Home Alone, Titanic, and other films there. It was a triplex then; I was long gone by the time it was converted to six screens. Never a great theater, but it was the only one in walking distance of my childhood home at the time.

I live in Newark and I started going to this theater in the early ‘80s. So, I only remember it as a Triplex. I saw “Q, the Winged Serpent”, “Ghostbusters”, “The Last Starfighter”, “The Goonies”, “The NeverEnding Story”. I stopped going there often when the Jackson Street Bridge closed in Newark in '84, which was a quick and easy way to get there. I know I went back a couple times after and saw “Back to the Future”, “Teen Wolf”, “La Bamba”, “Gremlins 2”, “Another 48 Hours”…but it was a craphole by 1990…haven’t been there since.

Ok we called this theatre the “Stinking Lincoln” after a fire in the mid 70’s. The last movie I remember seeing was “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest” before it was split up. Funny note after the Lincoln was turned into 3 theaters, the marquee read “3x Theater” or as or as our parent thought xxx theater, and would not let us go there any more!

Dear Sally Gordon,
I do remember Miss Honey, she was the owner of the dance studio. she had a daughter named Judi Terri which was why it was name that. Their last name was something like Novelli. I remember another dance teacher named Miss Eleanor and it there were others my memory is failing me or they came after I was gone. I took lessons there from around 1958 till 1965-66. I am not sure when your friend Betty was there. Sorry I could not be of help in finding her.

Dear Debbie Annett, I hope you can help. I am trying to trace a friend from my past. Her name was BETTY THOMSON, married name BETTY CARPENTER, SHE had a son GLEN CARPENTER, and she taught dancing at THE JUDI-TERRI DANCING SCHOOL,in Kearney NJ… she was assistant to MISS HONEY at one time. Originally she came from GREENOCK in SCOTLAND and won many prizes in HIGHLAND DANCING. My website is

I spent many Saturday afternoons here in the 60’s. I also performed on the stage here every June during those years since I attended dance classes in the Judi Terri Dance School which was above the theatre and the school rented the theatre every year for our recital. It was exciting being “back stage” there – although small it was still very exciting. I cannot even imagine it being split into a 7 screen theatre. I will have to go back just to see how they did this. I am wondering if the bathrooms are still down that awful staircase!!!! Boy did this bring back memories – so much that last night I actually did go to the old Rutherford Rivoli which is now the Williams Center and boy was that a trip!!!!! Me and my granddaughter were the only people in the small theatre to see the 7:00 showing of the movie “Shorts” – I guess because it was Sunday of Labor Day weekend, but still…………….

This theater will always mean a lot to me because they showed “Journey to the Center of the Earth” in CinemaScope at a Saturday/Sunday matinee in around 1974. It was an all-time favorite of mine, and I’d only ever seen it on TV (pan & scan), so seeing it on the big screen at the Lincoln (then a single screen theater) was a revelation. The print had mostly faded to pink but I didn’t care!

I grew up in this theater in the early 70’s. Huge place, Giant single screen, spent every Saturday there for years. I still go in from time to time for a movie, and i’ll close my eyes and remember fondly of the old place. :)

Arlington is the neighborhood in northern Kearny bordering Bergen County.

The Lincoln Theater is listed as being in Arlington in the main listings of the 1941 Film Daily Yearbook (1,244 seats) operated by Warner Bros. Circuit Management (The circuit listings in the same edition have it as being in Kearney).

Same in the 1943 edition but it is listed under Arlington and Kearney in the main listings (although no seating capacity given under the Kearney listing).

By the 1950 edition of F.D.Y. it is listed as being in Kearney and has a seating capacity of 1,267, still operated by Warner Bros. Circuit Management.

Still a single screen as of September 1980. There is a great picture on page 54 of Arcadia Publishing’s book “Kearny” with Brubaker on the marquee.

Listed in the 1951 FDY with an address of 832 Kearny Avenue in Arlington (as the Mapquest link shows). Seating was 1267. As of 1/17/91, the Star Ledger had it listed as 5 screens. Sometime in the 90s two more screens were added.
