The Strand Theatre opened in 1942 as a movie house seating 412. It remained in operation until the late-1970’s. In 1984 it got a facelift and became the home to the Haywood Arts Reperatory Theatre. It remained their home until 1993 when code violations forced them to vacate the rented facility.
The theatre was boarded up tight, but still stood awaiting its fate. The vertical which had been painted a light blue still says “Theatre” down each side and the marquee which had been painted a bright pink still says in broad letters “Strand” on each side.
It was renovated and reopened in 2013.
