Opened on November 5, 1985 the original six-screen theatre in the St. Vital shopping centre located in south Winnipeg.
Consisted of six identical auditoriums with around 300 seats each. One concession bar with eight serving stations. It was later expanded to 10-screens.

Steve, if you look at Famous Players website, the Silvercity St Vital is a 10 screen, stadium seating, curved screen multiplex. Just like all of the other Silvercity brand theatres in Canada. Why did you list it as the other cinema with 6 screens that came before it but call it Silvercity which it wasn’t?
Hi Tim, If you check the ADD A THEATRE link above, you’ll note that it first asks for the current name of the theatre. Perhaps I should have been more specific as this was not a refurb as much as it was a demolition and replacement. I will try to have this edited and corrected. Thanks for your note.
This should be listed as Cineplex, which is the corporate successor to Famous Players, since 2005.
Correction: Operated by Cineplex since 2005, still branded as SilverCity St. Vital.
And should say 10 screens, not 6
I went to this theatre back in 1993 when it was still the St. Vital 6. The movie I caught there was Cool Runnings.
Does anyone have any information on the original St. Vital 6- pics, any details about what you remember?
I have a photo I took of the outside of the St. Vital 6 back when I went there, but I’d have to scan it first before downloading it.
My scan of the St. Vital 6 photo I took in 1993 is now up in the photo section.
Opened as Famous Players St. Vital 6 on November 5th, 1985, and renamed Silver City with the first 4 screens opening on July 1st and the others opening on December 18th, 1998. Grand opening ads posted.
