The Eastside, located in Harper Woods on Harper Avenue, was the first drive-in to open in the Detroit area. It opened in 1938 with space for about 1000 cars. Operated for many years by General Cinema Corporation, it was later part of the Wisper & Wetsman chain. In the 70s, it showed adult movies.
The theater closed in 1977 and was torn down a year later. The Westside Drive-In in Oak Park (also long gone) was the “sister” theater to the Eastside.
