I totally forgot someone on here took pics. I was racing my bike to catch the train last nite and went right past it. Had my camera in my pocket. The building is indeed very nondescript, almost the size of a small gentleman’s club.
According to the manager the season is generally April to October but others factors may influence those dates, particularly the availability of a film that he particularly wants to screen. He also said the theatre goes back to the 70’s which surprises me.
Is the correct name of this theater “The Movie”? Why is that name on the building?
Great…I have never seen a picture of this theater. One of the few seasonal theaters left in the USA!
This photo will give you an idea of the size of the building. Here is a close-up view.
This theater must be open. This schedule shows Iron Man currently playing here.
Is this open this year?
Is it the same theater ? For some reason i did not think this theater had that many seats ..not sure?
Can anyone shed a light on the approximate age/decade of this theatre please? I have a listing in the Film Daily Yearbook;1941 edition, of a Montauk Theatre, located in the township of Montauk Point, Long Island which has a a seating capacity of 350. It is listed as ‘Closed’ in that edition and doesn’t appear in either the 1943 or 1950 editions of F.D.Y.
great to see this still going ..one of the few single screens left on li
This theater operates from April through October and it does show first run movies. Spiderman 3 is playing there now.
I’ve lived in the Hamptons every summer for nearly 30 years, but I’ve never seen a movie here. I’ve seen it, though. An adorable little “mom and pop” movie theater that shows first-run movies. I’m glad it hasn’t closed down.
did this open for 2006 season?
August of 1974 when “Mame” went on wide run after the Music Hall, the Montauk is listed as a UA. Anyone ever know anything about UA operating it?
now open for 2005
Whenever for I am in the Hamptons I drive past this place, but have never gone in. I am going to make a point of doing it this summer.
This is one of the few theaters on longisland i have never been to . Any info would be great.
