This local theatre in Blairstown opened in 1913, and showed movies until the 1960’s, when competition from television and suburban theatres shut down the place. It wasn’t until 2000-2001 that Dirk Swaneveld Sr., who used to be my teacher at North Warren before going to Warren Vo-Tech and now Belvidere as principal, rejuvenated the place as a performing arts center with live performances such as “Grease”, “Oliver”, and other shows featuring young and talented performers during the summer months when they were off from school or college.
A few years later, the theatre was repainted blue and renamed the Nous Theatre. In 2001, my old neighbor Tim Schuster worked as an usher at this theatre, which will show various plays and musicals this summer in hopes to attract crowds and make money to the town and the NJ Performing Arts.
It was renamed Historic Blairstown Theatre in 2012.

I thought he died in an airplane crash in 1959.
My mistake, it’s richie havens.
I’m disappointed to hear that. I would have paid good money to see a guy that’s been dead for 50 years perform again. LOL

This article indicates that the theater reopened in 2011 as the Historic Blairstown Theatre in 2011, its current name, and that it opened in 1913 as Roy’s Hall and showed silent movies. Its website indicates that it is now a performing arts venue.
