- Dec 23, 2009 — Ritz Theater gets grants for repairs
Built and opened in 1898 as the Grand Opera House and located within the Old Town Brunswick National Register Historic District, the theater was originally built for the legitimate stage.
Later, however, it became a theater for vaudeville, and by 1934 it had been renamed Ritz Theater and was operating as a movie theater by United Theater Enterprises, Inc. after a marquee and vertical sign had been added. By 1941 it was operated by Lucas and Jenkins, a subsidiary of Paramount Pictures Inc.
The City of Brunswick purchased the Ritz Theater in 1980. The theater has been under the management of the Golden Isles Arts and Humanities Association since 1989.

The Ritz Theatre is located at 1528 Newcastle Street and it seated 782 people.
Here are my December 2010 pictures of the Ritz. It’s a beautiful building. I only wish that they could’ve kept the old marquee, visible in the 1983 picture.
The Opera House opened in 1898 according to the Brunswick Historical Society.
