I just found this site. My mother was the organist at the Franklin in the late 20’s, early 30’s. Her friend Eleanor Richter was the organist at the Temple. Mother said the saddest day of her life was the day they wired the theater for sound.
I’m sorry to report that the Franklin Theater was destroyed by fire in 1973. Also, the map is not correct. The Franklin was on the northeast corner of Franklin and either Janes or Federal St.
Looks like it was demolished. I checked the entire length of North and South Franklin streets in aerial Google views, no sign of any theater.
From The Moving Picture World July 1915:
Col. W. S. Butterfleld was at Saginaw recently to take a lease on the new Franklin Theater to be used as a vaudeville house.
A Wurlitzer theater organ opus 115 style “V” special was installed in the Franklin Theater on 12/20/1916.
On Cinema Tour there is a Franklin Theatre in Grand Rapids, MI. Anyone have information about this one?
The Franklin was operated by the Btterfield Theatres until its closing.
