As of late 2022 a gourmet brownie store called ganache–d has opened in the theatre’s lobby. It’s unclear what use it being made, if any, of the theatre spaces.

Launched as the Thorley Theatre in 1914. On June 15, 1939, the Thorley Theatre became the Avalon Theatre. In 1940, the name was changed again to the Utah Theatre. After closing for remodeling in 1946, the theatre relaunched as the Cedar Theatre which it retained until it was twinned.

This beautiful theater is sadly closed and the posters still list films from 2015.

The theater is going for almost 500 thousand. Personally I do not think it is worth quite that much.

I do not know if that building is still standing. so much has been done with that property across the street from this location.

Looks like it’s still closed. The theater is at the end of Main Street in this circa 1940s photo.

There is a new email that you can get ahold of me at with your ideas of how this can be turned into a community theater/venue for Cedar City, Utah.

How would everyone feel if the Cedar City Twin was turned into a theater with a stage for plays etc?

I understand that Cedar City has many theaters because of the Festival however, it would be a community theater. Making it available for the General public of Cedar City/Southern Utah region.

Let me know what you think. email me:

Andrew

Iwas in Cedar City the weekend of Sept. 30-Oct. 1 and noticed that the Cedar is now closed. The building now has a new owner, but due to a non-compete clause, it cannot be utilized as a theater. Some friends of mine at the Utah Shakespearean Festival said the new use is unknown, but the site is being renovated.
