The Peru Theater was open from at least the 1920s. It is listed in the 1951 Film Daily Yearbook as open, operated at that time by the LaSalle, IL-based Alger Theatres chain.
The theater was torn down in 1981. The new Peru City Hall is currently (2007) being constructed on the site of the Peru Theater building and adjacent Turn Halle Building, which was razed at the same time as the movie theater.

The marquee and vertical sign of the Peru Theater can be seen in this 1932 photograph.
A circa-1931 exterior view of the Peru Theater (with the Turn Halle to the left) can be seen here.

I saw several films at the Peru in the 60s and 70s. If my memory serves me correctly I think the interior style was atmospheric.
