Interestingly enough, the Rich/Centre is located nearly across the street from the still-standing building that housed the Bank of Montpelier. The bank was robbed by Robert LeRoy Parker, aka Butch Cassidy and two of his gang, sans the Sundance Kid, on August 13, 1896. Little did Butch know that 74 years later a movie would be playing at the theatre glorifying his crimes, starring a much handsomer Paul Newman.

This web page says that the Rich Theatre opened in 1923 in a building formerly occupied by an automobile dealership.

I wonder if the project listed in the January 6, 1919, issue of the trade journal Lumber ever got built:

“Montpelierâ€"S. A. Shreeve, architect, Col.-Hudson Building, Ogden, Utah, is preparing preliminary plans for 80x150 ft. brick theater on Main Street here. $70,000.”
Does anybody know if there were any other theaters operating in Montpelier during the 1920s?

I found where the Centre opened as the Rich theatre in the early 30’s and was owned by Harris-Voeller Theatres. Seating for the Centre is listed as 478.
