Hey movie534 I have a couple of questions, who was your theater manager and did Richie Harrington work there when you were the projectionist? I worked at Essex Green in West Orange from Sept ‘86 to Sept '87 and occassionally he got pawned off to us when our manager John Monsport or the assistant manager John Boyd weren’t available to work.
I worked here briely as a projectionist in 1990, when things were already in a downslide. Had 2 screens, screen 1 was the bigger of the 2 theatres. Ran “teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” in the spring of 1990, which seemed to be the last harrah for this theatre.
I remember this movie theater as it was co-located with the Morris County Mall. Although I saw several films here I can only immediately recall Monty Python’s LIFE OF BRIAN, PORKY’S, and the movie version of BEATLEMANIA. This movie theater also hosted late shows.
As with many smaller theaters, this movie was doomed by multiplexes such as the one that replaced the Morristown theater.
The former cinema, which was located minutes off Route 10 Eastbound on the way down to Morristown in Cedar Knolls (not too far from where I work at Employment Horizons, my workshop), later became a strip mall with a Wal-Mart as well as other stores and restaurants. When did it open and close and how many seats did it hold in each auditorium, as well as the sound and picture formats?
what retail is it? A Wal-Mart?
This was indeed a GCC operation. It has since been converted to retail.
