The first picture posted is of a theater in Fort Sumner. I was there a couple months ago and took this picture:

Here is the Zia in 2009.
If you want to add the Zia Theater in Fort Sumner to Cinema Treasures, go ahead. I don’t know anything about that theater.
A new entry for another Zia Theater – Fort Sumner, NM is in order?
I think the American Classic photos show this Zia Theater. This photo shows the same building as the other photos posted on this page and it is labeled as being the Zia Theater in Fort Sumner.
Kevin I do agree with you that these are two different theatres. Which is the correct one for this page? When you look at the photo that google maps to it is like the American Classic photo. There is no resemblance to the other Zia theatre.
Here’s a small mystery – the Zia Theater photos here for Springer, NM appear to show two different venues. The photos from 1995, 1981, 1984 show a building with windows and a box office set back from the sidewalk, not to mention a semi-modern marquee and neighboring storefronts.
The first two photos posted above – one from 1987 – look to be a different venue, with smaller, windowless building, no marquee and a much different sign. Is this the Zia Theater in Los Lunas, NM that is listed elsewhere on Cinema Treasures?
This is another 1984 photo.

According to the info above, the Zia’s movie days ended in 1995 – which is when this shot was taken:

Sad to see the condition of the ZIA in the picture posted by ken mc.
Each time we lose one of these old treasures, a little bit of Americana is gone that we will never be able to replace.
Here is a picture I took of the ZIA’s aprrox. the summer of 1987.

Here is another photo of the Zia Theater.
Good find! I photographed this one years ago on a trip through New Mexico, but now cannot find the pictures.
