Crown Theater

The Crown Theater in Calumet, Michigan was opened by 1926 when it was listed with 450-seats. By 1929 it was listed with 600-seats. It had closed by 1931, probably as a silent movie theatre. It became a shoe store.

The owner/manager of the theater in 1917 was John Vogel. Unfortunately, he was killed in a fire at the theater that same year. If you have time to read through the case, you may agree with me that the insurance company rather heartlesly denied his life insurance claim:

I don’t know if it’s the same theater under a different name or not, but in 1909 there was a Grand Theatre in Calumet, operated by a Mr. D.E. Rice and a Mr. Vogel.
