Jan 8 1970 and Paul Newman is starring in “WINNING” there at the Roxy.Like so many small towns it felt the need to add over the movie ad,“Adults and Mature Young people”.Wildest Double feature ever At the ROXY. Jan 12 1972 sees “THE INCREDIBLE TWO HEADED TRANSPLANT” with a “WALK IN THE SPRING RAIN”.Can’t make it up.
Yes, the projection booth is still manually operated. We have a Potts 3 tier 52" platter system. We use a 3000 watt bulb with a Simplex XL projector, a Dolby CP45 processor, 3 900 watt QSC amps with JBL speakers behind the screen and 8 EV surround speakers.
Is the projection booth still manually operated? Or did you get an automation system and electronic houselight dimmer?
Is the platter a Christie or a Strong/Potts?
The original box office is not used. When we did the remodel in 1996, so we could open the theatre after being closed for 15+ years, we put a box office window to where the ticket seller can assist in the snack bar. You still purchase your tickets prior to entering the theatre. We did this to try and keep the overhead / payroll down.
I understand the original boxoffice is no longer used and customers must buy tickets from the snack bar.
The 1942 photo does show the original Roxy Theatre in Eatonville. That building is now the home of Eatonville Furniture. The current Roxy Theatre construction started in 1941 and opened in October of 1942. When the new Roxy opened the one in the photo was closed as they were owned by the same people. I am one of the current owner / operators of the Roxy Theatre in Eatonville.

It seems odd that there would be two Roxy movie theaters in one town. Maybe the current Roxy theater on Mashelle Ave replaced the Roxy on Main St. Any idea when this (Mashelle Ave) Roxy theater opened?
Looks like a different street. Doesn’t appear to match anything on Mashelle Ave, but that street view does look like Main street. I believe that the theater shown in the 1942 photo is now a storefront.
This is a 1942 photo of A Roxy theater in Eatonville. Could it be this theater or another Roxy theater?
It is amazing how many theatres are named ROXY in imitation of the once famous name of the New York City panjandrum of the movie palace: Samual Lionel Rothapfel = “Roxy”. His namesake was the famous ROXY THEATRE in NYC, which outlasted him by only 25 years when it was demolished in 1960. The whole story is in that landmark book “The Best Remaining Seats: The Story of the Golden Age of the Movie Palace” by the late Ben M. Hall in 1961. Various editions of it are sometimes available from www.Amazon.com, but only the first edition contains the color plates.
