George “Daddy” Diehl of the Mirror Theatre opened the Orpheum Theatre on the city’s West Side neighborhood on April 4, 1916. The first film was “The Strength of the Weak” with Mary Fuller. Though the theatre closed at end of lease in May of 1956, it was reopened by Barry Shlaes on weekends only in January of 1957 with Spanish language films on Saturdays and Hollywood second-run films on Sundays. In 1958, Saturday screenings were Greek films as charity screenings. The last film at the Orpheum appears to be October 4, 1958 with “Protevousianikes Peripeteies” (aka “The Girl from Corfu”) shown in Greek with English subtitles.

Yeah for some reason some info that had it listed in the 600-blk 4th Avenue, Moline blocks have changed some since that time but I’m not sure they would’ve changed that much. Actual address is 139 4th Avenue as of today.
The address in the header is incorrect. Go to Google Street View and type in 137 4th Avenue and you will see an image of the still-standing theater from 2009.

The Orpheum was at 137 4th Avenue in Moline Il. In 1983 the business Taylor & Co Heating was using the space.
The theatre in these pictures is still standing(2011) I’m not sure if this was the Orpheum or not. I’ve found some conflicting locations on 4th Avenue for the theatre. The address of the ones in the pictures is 139 4th Avenue Moline and I’ve found it listed at 639 4th avenue which is a lot now and 100-blk of 4th st so who knows. I think this is it and that it was just never demolished.
Judging by the front door, I suspect it was converted to retail before it was demolished.
