What’s the latest with this theatre that needs to be restored and returned to the citizens of Mt. Dora? If the nearby town of Eustis could do it, so can Mt. Dora!

Here is my picture from June 2011. Sorry about the top of it getting washed out. The 3PM sun isn’t too picture-friendly.

I hope Mount Dora gets their Princess Theatre back someday. I plan to call Main Street Leasing that is now located at the former theatre site and speak with someone about my concerns.

Hello Patsy.

I was looking forward to meeting you some time back when you were going to visit my theatre in Northampton, but that never happened.
I always enjoy reading your posts.

The former Princess Theatre is now owned by Main Street Leasing. The number is 352-735-0334 if you want to inquire about returning it to the Princess Theatre again!

This theatre still has its exterior design. Wonder why keeping it a theatre wasn’t preserved and wonder if there is a effort “afoot” to return the Princess Theatre to the citizens of Mt. Dora?? Hope so!

Sure you like to see a 1940’s photo of this theatre that should be restored to a theatre again as Mount Dora is a quaint FL community in central FL. The 2006 post didn’t seem to work.

Here is an undated photo, probably from the 1940s:

In the above comment where it reads “began to show "talkies” in 1947", should probably read “1927”. I assume that it is a typo on the Mount Dora Travel Guide website since I copied and pasted their text.

From the Mount Dora Travel Guide, Old Princess Theater:

“Princess Gallery Theatre. This was built in 1922 as a movie theater. The ticket office here was level with the sidewalk, and on either side were shops, a quick-lunch on one side and a music store on the other. In the late 1920s, the projector caught fire in the middle of the night and burned out the shops and theater front. While repairs were being made, a temporary open-air theater was set up in back of the present Wingler Building, with a screen on its north wall. The Princess was rebuilt with a Spanish style front, and began to show "talkies” in 1947. In 1965, the Spanish front was replaced with a mansard roof, and was sold soon after as part of the settlement of the Simpson estate. It was renovated for use as a shopping complex in the 1970s and 1980s".
