Here is a recent photo of the State Theater.
The State Theater received a facade easement and is now nearly as beautiful as it was when first built in 1926. The Marquee, though not original to the theater has be revamped and is beautiful. Currently we are waiting to find out if the Sioux Falls State Theater group will be granted the opportunity by the owners to turn this gem back into a first-run movie house. Go to www.siouxfallsstatetheater.com for updates.
A Wurlitzer theater organ opus 1248 style EX was installed in the State Theater on 1/15/1926.

Operated by Publix, Minnesota Amusement, ABC, Plitt and MIDCO, From what I found it closed in the early-1990’s.
The State, now renamed the Sylvia R. Henkin State Theatre, will be reopening in in 2013, primarily as a movie theater. This article about the renovations and reopening identifies the theater’s architects as Buechner and Orth.
